CBD Basics

  • How do I know if the CBD I’m buying is from a good source?

When considering where to buy CBD products, look for these key factors to ensure quality:

    1. Third-Party Lab Testing: Look for third-party lab test results verifying the cannabinoid profile and confirming the product is free from contaminants. At Piedmont Green Dispensary, we value transparency and provide these results for all of our products.
    2. Source of Hemp: Ensure the hemp is organically grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. All hemp used in our products are locally grown right here in NC. We farm using nothing but top-quality soil, OMRI listed organic plant supplements, natural predators, & Carolina sunshine!
    3. Extraction Method: We use cryo-ethanol extraction to create our CBD distillate, a process that preserves cannabinoids while ensuring purity. This method leaves no detectable solvents in the final product, as shown in our full panel COA. We also use solventless ice-water extraction to produce our rosins.
    4. Transparency and Information: Check for detailed product information, including CBD concentration and ingredients.
    5. Customer Reviews and Reputation: Look for a company with positive reviews and strong customer feedback. (Hint: that’s us! We are proud to have a solid reputation and to have acquired many satisfied customers over the years.)
  • What is CBD / What are cannabinoids?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in L. Cannabis Sativa. CBD, found in hemp and marijuana, is a non-psychoactive compound. Therefore, it does not give a psychoactive high, but instead promotes various other non-mind altering results found from cannabis. *

Cannabinoids are found in the cannabis plant and interact naturally with human and animal regulatory systems.

  • What can cannabinoids like CBD do?

Researchers are constantly publishing new findings on the potential temporary effects associated with using CBD. Click here for a list of the most common and well-known. *

  • Why am I hearing of so many different effects?

We are all born with receptors in our central nervous system called endocannabinoid receptors. The connection of CBD to these receptors cause a wide variety of experiences and effects that vary from person to person. *

  • How do I find the right dosage of CBD for me?

Proper CBD dosage is determined by your central nervous system’s specific receptor make-up. That means dosage is different for everyone, regardless of height, weight, age, sex, etc. Refer to the dosage chart and information on this page for details on how to determine the proper amount for your desired effect. *

  • Does CBD show up on drug tests?

Unfortunately this cannot be answered with a simple yes or no because there are two different kinds of drug testing out there, quantitative and qualitative.

Quantitative testing refers to lab testing because in lab analysis, they break down all of the individual cannabinoids found in our body and shows a specific quantity of each found. For example, a quantitative lab test done on a full-spectrum CBD user should show very low, potentially undetectable, levels of delta-9THC(The cannabinoid that causes the notorious psychoactive effect of marijuana) and high levels of CBD. If the same quantitative lab analysis was done on an active marijuana user, the test should show results with significantly higher delta-9THC contents along with various other cannabinoids. Thus lab testing is the preferred testing method for those using CBD products.

The second kind of testing, qualitative, refers to the simple yes/no drug tests that have thousands of different brands available and are known to be quite inaccurate. Mixed reports have came from these simplified drug screening methods, probably due to the devices inability to distinguish one cannabinoid from another. If the device reads any cannabinoid, CBD, CBG, THC, CBN, etc. it would be very likely for the test to trigger positive for marijuana because it reads the cannabinoid as delta-9THC. This makes things tricky for customers. Even THC free CBD oils are not safe from these drug tests and customers using them run the risk of failing a drug screening.

Due to this discrepancy, shop owners cannot guarantee that any CBD-infused product will be able to pass any sort of drug screening. At Piedmont Green, our best recommendation is to talk to your employers, show them the 3rd party lab analysis for the CBD oil you are wanting to take before you buy if your job requires drug testing. Many of our customers have done this and had positive results with employers, HR directors, pain clinics, parole officers, etc.

  • What are terpenes?

Terpenes are oils within plants that are well known for their incredible scents, flavors, and potential medicinal benefits. Although terpenes can be found in nearly all plants, cannabis plants contain more of them than nearly any other plant! Cannabis’s sister plant, hops, also has high terpene contents and this is why hops are used for flavoring all the delicious beer that exists today!

  • What is the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate?

Full-spectrum means that the cannabis product contains the full range of cannabinoids produced by the plant. A full-spectrum CBD product means that the product did not have any of the cannabinoids removed whereas broad spectrum and isolate CBD products have removed the vast majority of the THC within it. Although this may sound like a good thing for those looking to pass a drug screening, we recommend practicing caution. There is much evidence of these broad-spectrum and isolate CBD products still causing people to fail a drug screening. When using ANY cannabis product, you run the risk of failing a drug screening that tests for THC.

  • What is bioavailability?

Bioavailability refers to the human body’s ability to actually use whatever substances we are consuming. Different consumption and processing methods of cannabis products can alter the bioavailability of the cannabinoids you are using. There are many peer-reviewed research studies that outline the variations found in bioavailability of cannabinoids but overall, when searching for a product that will work for you, we recommend trying multiple products with varying delivery methods to find what will work best for you. Every human body is different and we typically see a very wide variation in results from person-to-person.

  • Can I cook or bake with CBD oil?

Yes! You can bake with both CBD oils and hemp flower.

THCa Basics

  • What is THCa?

THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in raw cannabis. Unlike THC, which is known for its psychoactive effects, THCa is non-psychoactive until it’s heated.

  • What is THCa vs Delta9-THC?

THCa is the precursor to Delta-9 THC. When THCa is heated (through smoking, vaping, or cooking), it converts to Delta-9 THC, which is psychoactive. Delta-9 THC is stronger in terms of producing a “high”, while raw THCa doesn’t have the same effect.

  • What is the difference between THCa and CBD?

THCa and CBD are both non-psychoactive in their raw forms, but they interact with the body differently. THCa converts to THC when heated, causing psychoactive effects, while CBD remains non-psychoactive and has different effects on the body. To learn more about CBD, visit this page.

  • How long does THCa stay in your system?

THCa itself isn’t commonly tested in standard drug tests, but once converted to THC, it can stay in your system for several days to weeks, depending on usage frequency and your metabolism.

  • Is THCa psychoactive?

No, THCa is not psychoactive in its raw form. It only becomes psychoactive when converted to Delta-9 THC through heating.

  • Will using THCa cause me to fail a drug test?

Because it converts to THC when heating, there is a chance that using THCa could cause you to fail a drug test. THC is what drug tests typically look for. We recommend discussing your use of CBD and/or THCa with your employer and sharing third-party lab analyses before starting THCa products. Many of our customers have successfully navigated this conversation with employers, HR directors, pain clinics, parole officers, etc.

  • Why is THCa legal?

Because THCa is non-psychoactive, it doesn’t fall under the same legal regulations as THC in its raw form. (However, once it’s converted to THC through heating, it becomes subject to the same legal restrictions as THC.) Farmers in Asheville have figured out how to keep these plants just cold enough to stop the THCa from converting to delta-9, thus making them a fully legal and compliant hemp product grown with all natural and organic practices.

  • Does THCa turn into delta9 when smoked?

Yes, when THCa is smoked, vaped, or otherwise heated, it converts to Delta9-THC, which is the psychoactive form of THC.

  • How and Where Can I Buy THCa Online?

If you’re looking to buy THCa flower or other THCa products online, you’re in the right place! But there are some important things to consider:

First, THCa is legal in its raw form since it’s non-psychoactive, but keep in mind it converts to Delta-9 THC when heated, so always check your local laws.

Second, quality matters. Here at Piedmont Green Dispensary, we pride ourselves on offering top-quality, organically grown THCa products without synthetic additives.

We also can’t stress enough the importance of third-party lab testing. It ensures compliance with regulations, guarantees quality, and verifies safety. These tests confirm the product’s cannabinoid levels, ensuring reliability and authenticity while checking for harmful contaminants. You can view the Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for all THCa products directly on each product page of our website.

If you’re local to North Carolina, you can visit our dispensary in Kannapolis to explore our selection of high-quality, lab-tested THCa products. Otherwise, click here to shop online.
